Windows 10 October update may delete files

Due to a driver issue

Yesterday Microsoft released another big update for Windows 10 which contains a bunch of interesting new features. While you might want them as soon as possible, we suggest to backup your files first. According to a report on Reddit, the latest update might wipe some of your files.

Some users have been reporting that during the update process files from the documents, photos and music folders have been removed. According to latest information, the issue might be related to OneDrive since the folders and documents backed up to OneDrive are the same that the update is removing from your hard drive. Furthermore some devices might not work properly. Following a report from ZDNet, if you are using Intel audio drivers (intcdaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3 – 10.25.0. you might have some issue as well.

During the next days Intel will release a software update that will fix this issue. At the moment it’s unclear when Microsoft will fix this bug, which means we suggest to delay the update.
