Microsoft releases big update for Windows 10

Version 1809 is now available

Microsoft has started rolling out the release of its Windows 10 October 2018 Update. It is this years second major update and it contains several new features including the “Your Phone app” and improvements to the “Timeline”.

The October 2018 Update has been in testing by the Windows Insider community for several months now. With this update Microsoft is going to introduce an app called “Your Phone”. This makes it easy for users to use images from their Android smartphone on Windows 10 PCs. Furthermore you can send and receive text messages with the application. According to a leak, Microsoft could add a future feature where you will be able to use your Android smartphone on your Windows PC.

In addition Microsoft is now extending the Dark Theme to the File Explorer with the October 2018 Update. It's a rather dramatic change from the usual white but it now fits the rest of the Dark Theme of Windows 10. If you are a dark mode fan like me, this new look is certainly for you.

If you have a fancy HDR monitor, you will be happy to know that Microsoft has updated the HDR support as well. Furthermore, the updated brings support for NVIDIA's ray-tracing GPUs. Microsoft and NVIDIA have worked together on ray-tracing and DirectX with this update. If you own a RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti you might need this update for playing Battlefield V with ray tracing enabled.
