27 inch IPS display from BenQ with USB Type-C dock

Targeting professionals

BenQ has been working on a new display for professionals. The PD2710QC has already been announced back in January and it looks like this display is finally becoming available. What sets this monitor apart from others is the USB-C docking station that’s been integrated into the stand.

Nevertheless let’s first start with the basic specs. BenQ has decided to use a WQHD(2560 x 1440) IPS panel, which is supposed to cover the sRGB and Rec. 709 color space by 100 percent. In the case of color depth 8 Bit are advertised and thanks to the IPS panel angular stability is as good as it gets. The stand supports tilt, swivel and height adjustments. Apart from that there is a 7mm thin bezel surrounding the panel. BenQ recommends this display specifically to graphics designers.

Although the panel is anything but bad, the key feature is the USB-C docking station, that has been integrated into the stand. Once the Stand has been connected using a single USB Type-C cable there is access to four USB Type-A and one Type-C port, one DisplayPort, an RJ45 Ethernet connector and a headphone out. Furthermore there is a connector for the power cable and the power switch. Especially in combination with notebooks this is a neat way to keep your desktop clean, since one USB Type-C cable suffices to connect the display and get access to a whole bunch of connectors.

Since BenQ is mentioning that the USB Type-C connector supports up to 5 Gbit/s of bandwidth, it cannot be a USB 3.1 Gen2 implementation. Nevertheless, thanks to USB Power Delivery up to 61 Watt of power is available, which allows for charging Smartphones and Tablets.

Checking for prices, the BenQ PD2710QC is listed on Geizhals with offers starting at 675 Euro. At this price this display is no bargain and BenQ is making possible customers pay for the additional dock. At this point we’re hoping to see similar implementations from other vendors, since this is definitely a useful feature.
