M.2 Version with more than 700 MB/s
During this years IFA, Plextor gave a sneak preview on two new SSD's. The manufacturer decided to who their upcoming M6 Drive with 2.5 inch casing as well as on an M.2 form factor PCB. Both drives feature the same controller and especially the M.2 SSD should feature great performance numbers.
With the M6, Plextor is about to launch the successor of the successfull Plextor M5 Series. As already mentioned, Plextor will introduce two versions of the M6. There will be a 2.5 inch drive, which measures only 5 millimeters in height. Other than that there will be an M.2 version, which is even smaller an fits for example in small notebook cases.
Plextor is putting a Marvell 88SS9187 controller on the PCB of both, the 2.5 inch drive as well as the M.2 drive. Furhtermore the new drives will be equipped with Toggle NAND flash memory from Toshiba, which is manufactured with 19 nanometer structures. When it comes to performance, Plextor has not yet release all information. Still, especially the M.2 version of the drive should be able to deliver throughput rates, that surpass the maximum speeds of SATA III.
Unfortunatly is it's yet to be disclosed when the upcoming M6 will be available. There is also no information on pricing, but we're expecting these drives to cost as much as the M5 today.
